KAYAK Activities Feature 101: Find What to Do on Vacation
Many of you are probably familiar with KAYAK, a website which is used to find the cheapest deals on flights, hotels, cars, and much more. I’ve used this service to find cheap flight deals for last minute international flights, and it’s awesome. As if finding the cheapest available transportation to your dream destination wasn’t a cool enough service, now KAYAK is starting to offer its new “Activities” feature. What does this mean? Essentially, aside from being able to pick out your flight, hotel, and rental car, you can also pick out your vacation activities at the place you’re staying! Into the outdoors? Are you an animal lover? This new feature gives travelers who may be a little clueless about what they’re getting into once they reach their destination some cheap ideas and inspiration on what to do. So what are some of the most popular, cost-efficient activities I found while checking out the top 10 traveled destinations by Americans? Let’s take a look!
Cancun, Mexico – Chichen Itza Full-Day Guided Tour ($59)
This full-day tour takes you from Cancun back to the pre-Columbian days of the Mayans, where you will visit Chichen Itza, the ancient ruins of the Mayan civilization. For those of you who aren’t comfortable speaking in Spanish, or have absolutely no knowledge of it, no worries! Bilingual tour guides are also available. You may have to pay extra in order to take pictures, so make sure you know what’s included in your tour price.
London, United Kingdom – Coca Cola London Eye 4D Experience ($30)
Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to view a city as magnificent as London in one of the world’s largest observation wheels? This Coca Cola-sponsored London Eye 4D Experience is supposed to be one of the most innovative experiences ever, and you even get to watch a 3D movie that spurts out bubbles and mist while on the observation wheel! If you’re looking for a new experience while in England, this is definitely it.
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – Full-Day Snorkeling Tour ($80)
Are you tired of simply lounging in the sun all day and want to do something more exciting at the beach? This activity in Punta Cana will be perfect for you! You’ll start with a hotel pick-up and enjoy some refreshments as you head to the snorkeling site where you’ll receive basic snorkeling lessons. The rest of the day you’ll get to go snorkeling, enjoy an amazing lunch, and relax on the beach. If you love beach getaways, this is the way to spice it up!
Paris, France – Palace of Versailles Small Group Tour ($279)
It’s essentially what the descriptions says it is: a tour with 15 other people where you’ll have an experienced guide taking you through the Palace of Versailles, one of the most popular landmarks in central Paris. If you need some guidance in understanding the significance of these landmarks, this tour will be perfect for you. Not to mention there are free refreshments that are offered during this tour, including chocolate croissants. What could beat that?
Rome, Italy – Tour of Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s & Sistine Chapel ($66)
Seeing all the historical landmarks in Rome can be very time-consuming. It’s highly unlikely that a few days can do adequate justice to all the beauty there is to see in that city. That’s why this guided tour, which allows you to skip all the lines at all the museums in Vatican City, the St. Peter’s Chapel, and the Sistine Chapel, will help you save some time and see more than you would if you weren’t on this tour.
Berlin, Germany – Parliament Quarter & Reichstag Glass Dome ($16)
Ever wonder what the house of the German government is like? Most of us have probably seen the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington D.C. But for those of us who are history buffs, this will be a treat. Check out the German Parliament Quarter in this guided tour, and even if you’re not a huge fan of history or government, the Reichstag Glass Dome is quite the eye candy for everyone!
Montego Bay, Jamaica – City and Rosehall Tour ($49)
Jamaica is a gorgeous country with beautiful beaches and an infusion of many different cultures. Wouldn’t it be amazing to see this all embodied in a compact tour? That’s exactly what the City and Rosehall tour aims to do. Get a chance to tour through the city’s schools and universities, the local party spots, and the best shopping districts, as you get a taste of what Jamaicans do on a day-to-day basis. Speaking of tastes, trust the tour guides to show you where the best rum is!
Beijing, China – Great Wall & Underground Palace Tour ($27)
Anyone going to Beijing is probably aware they’d better not leave until they’ve seen the Great Wall of China, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. But this full-fledged guided tour will not only allow you to see this majestic site, but also understand the entire history behind the Ming Empire as you stroll along the Wall. You also get to enjoy a traditional, royal Chinese lunch – perfect accompaniment for the view!
Delhi, India – Private Tal Mahal & Agra Fort Tour ($130)
You honestly can’t visit India without seeing the Taj Mahal. Also one of the Seven Wonders of the World, this private tour will allow you to escape the lines and commotion that would otherwise deter you from being able to enjoy your experience at the grandest mausoleum in the world. Aside from that, a lunch is completely paid for, and you can enjoy from a variety of options (even vegetarian ones!).
San Jose, Costa Rica – Tortuguero National Park ($105)
As the name suggests, Tortuguero (Turtle Catcher) National Park is full of gorgeous sea turtles, including species that are endangered and now under preservation. This is the ultimate haven for nature lovers. Whether you simply want to enjoy the beautiful waterfalls and take pictures, or get out there and go surfing, you can make sure you have a breathtaking experience on the gorgeous turquoise waters.
So there you have it – a compilation of some of the coolest activities out there! Take the liberty of using the Activities feature on KAYAK to do some experimenting on your own if none of these strike your fancy. Also make sure to consider checking out travel insurance before booking your next trip!
So many great places to travel to. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to try some of these places out!
